Shaxpir is an app made for writers who are motivated by the end product—a published book. This is more than just a writing and organizing software. It’s a peek into a very possible future.

Shaxpir (pronounced Shakespeare) was founded in 2015 by Benji Smith, designed specifically for fiction writers building immersive worlds and big stories. As with many others, this was designed after Smith completed his own novel and decided to address the issues he ran into, in terms of organizing his notes, writing his manuscript, and revising his draft. The platform is a combination of tools and features that are meant to assist writers as they craft their manuscripts from start to finish.
Each manuscript you begin on Shaxpir has its own folder, where you can add scenes and ideas, organize your notes on themes, characters and locations, and directly begin drafting your manuscript chapter by chapter. Your homepage is organized into books, short stories, articles and ideas. Each part comes with a preloaded template which you only have to fill out as you go. You can also input comments in the margins, add concept artwork to help provide writing inspiration, and export your manuscript into a variety of file formats.
What sets Shaxpir apart is its Linguistic Highlighting feature, which analyzes your writing’s vividness, sentiment, rhymes, alliteration, verbs, adverbs and prepositions. This tool helps you see your word choices clearly so you can tighten your prose. There’s also the Emotional Journey, where your story’s emotional journey is plotted in a graph through linguistic analysis of your prose.
My favorite part of Shaxpir, however, is in its user interface. For a lot of writers, the goal is the end product—a published book. Shaxpir’s main writing section makes it look like you’re watching your book come to life as you type, which in itself is a great motivator to keep going.
Shaxpir 5 is available on web and desktop apps and has cloud syncing functionality so you can catch up on any device. Upon first use, you get a free 7-day trial of Shaxpir Pro, which includes the base tools as well as the special features mentioned above. After that, Shaxpir Pro is available for $12 a month ($120 for the annual subscription), but the most essential tools are available on Shaxpir Free forever.
Step up your writing game with Shaxpir and once you’ve completed your first manuscript, head on over to The Manuscript Editor for a free editing sample. Our professional editors are ready to help you and your story reach its full potential!
