There’s nothing quite as exciting as the idea of a story we love making it to the big screen. Here are some books we’re excited to see in cinemas and on streaming platforms.

1. People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry

This friends-to-lovers romance will be the first of hopefully many more Emily Henry titles to be adapted into a feature film. Starring Tom Blyth and Emily Bader, People We Meet on Vacation is about two friends who go on many vacations, and that one trip that changed everything. The film is slated for release this year on Netflix, though the precise date is still unknown.
2. Heartstopper by Alice Oseman

Following three seasons on Netflix, the author of this immensely popular Webtoons series just announced that the series will be coming to an end with a movie. The movie will be based on Volume 6 of the webcomic, its final volume, as well as Nick and Charlie, a novella that is a spinoff of Alice Oseman’s debut novel, Solitaire. The movie will take us through Nick and Charlie’s final year in secondary school as they prepare for college and their imminent physical separation. Leads Kit Connor and Joe Locke are set to executive produce the film.
3. Animal Farm by George Orwell

This Orwellian classic’s newest adaptation will have its world premiere this June 9, 2025 at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. This adaptation will be an animated film which will include performances from Glenn Close, Seth Rogen, Woody Harrelson, Kieran Culkin, Laverne Cox, and Andy Serkis, who also directed the film. Animal Farm is a novella about a group of animals who rise up against their owners and take control of the farm.
4. Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins

The second prequel to Collins’s groundbreaking dystopian YA series The Hunger Games tells the story of the Second Quarter Quell, in which Haymitch Abernathy was the victor. Fans of the original series will of course know that Haymitch mentored Katniss and Peeta in the first book of the original series, leading them to a historical double win. The film was announced to be released in November 2026, with some of its leading cast already revealed. Joseph Zada will take on the role of Haymitch Abernathy, while Whitney Peak is set to play Lenore Dove. Read our full review of Sunrise on the Reaping here.
5. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Despite the adaptation of the novel being announced in 2022, Netflix is yet to announce its release date, as well as the lead cast. Nevertheless, it doesn’t take away from the anticipation nor the speculation around who will play its title role. Plenty of names have been thrown around like Ana de Armas and Sofia Carson, but unless Netflix makes the announcement, we can never be sure. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is a novel about the fictional memoir of an Old Hollywood actress by the same name. The novel is told in tandem by Hugo and Monique Grant, an up-and-coming journalist who looks at this project as her big break.
